2024 Academic Conference on The Uncertainty and Economic Outlook for the 2024 ‘Super Election’ Year

Call for Papers

The Department of Economics of Shih Hsin University is organizing its 26th annual academic conference entitled “The Uncertainty and Economic Outlook for the 2024 ‘Super Election’ Year.” The conference will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The program committee sincerely invites you to attend the conference in a hybrid online and offline mode, and present and share your research work.

About the Conference

2024 is set to be a ‘super election’ year since there are a record number of elections taking place in more than 60 countries (from Taiwan in January to the United States in November) this year. Economic issues are expected to play a crucial role in electoral debates. Over the past three years, many countries have grappled with high inflation and crisis triggered by the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and increased tensions in the Middle East. These stimulants will make the international political and economic situations more and more complex, making major election outcomes more unpredictable and leading to the rise of global economic uncertainty.

National elections, like US election scheduled for November 5, 2024, tend to place a greater emphasis on issues such as economic growth, income distribution, trade policy, and geopolitical implications. Meanwhile, non-incumbent politicians will also reevaluate the merits of different economic policies. The 2024 election outcomes on the world may be highly uncertain. However, the global economic outlook still remains relatively bright as the United States tightens controls on chip exports to China, shifts in global supply chains due to geopolitical dynamics, and a slowdown in inflation rates. The elections will eventually end, and countries will be moving forward in the midst of uncertainties, hoping for a better future. The ‘super election’ year of 2024 may indeed be a significant turning point.
